90 miles away from the US coast, Cuba is under immense pressure from the US Blockade, complicating every facet of life. But despite these challenges, Cuba has a world renowned public healthcare system, a free education system through grad school, and almost no homelessness. Statistics tell the story of a revolution rooted in justice: a 99% literacy rate (compared to the US’ 75% literacy rate) and Cuba’s 2016 infant mortality rate of 4.3% per 1,000 live births (compared to North Carolina’s rate of 7.3%). Join us to discover Cuba’s history of social reform, its relationship with the US, their preventative healthcare model, educational system and culture of solidarity. You’ll be immersed in an inspiring culture of resiliency and you’ll see into a window of a whole other world.
